Handy thesaurus/ crossword solver
I've had this for a while now and really can't fault it. It's easy to use and has a vast dictionary. It's helped me with a number of crosswords with the Thesaurus, Anagram Solver and Crossword Solver. I've even played Hangman on it. Well worth having if you like your puzzles.

OVERVIEW
ER 2100 is very, very slow to operate.Not much cop really. Needs a Dictionary function alongside the Thesaurus.Had to upgrade to a better Seiko Thesaurus/Dictionary product, this is much much better and is so much faster. Needs 2 batteries to power it instead of the one on the ER2100.Conclusion: Don't buy this version.

Seiko Concise Oxford Thesaurus ER 2100
This machine lacks some of the facilities available on an earlier version. That version offered access to phrases that was often very helpful. The replacement machine does not include this facility. Gaining access to Anagrams or Crosswords now involves more keystrokes than the earlier machine. Another drawback is that the keys to input letters are smaller in size than those on the earlier machine. This leads to the wrong key being selected or the correct key failing to register on the display.

Overall, I found the facilities now on offer are inferior to those on earlier machines.

Everything I hoped it would be
I hemmed and hawed a lot before ordering the Kindle; my first e-reader. I thought perhaps I'd miss something about the experience of reading a book. Perhaps I'd miss the feel of it, or the smell, or turning the pages. In actual fact, the only thing I miss is being able to re-read the cover and back page when I put it to rest after a long read. There's something satisfying about absorbing the cover and imprinting it on your memory, especially after you finish the last page of a book. Anyway, it's a minor point. In every other detail the Kindle is a superior reading experience.

The weight of the Kindle is a significant factor. A large paperback or hardback can be annoying to read, especially if you're in bed. Remember holding a heavy paperback above you? Or how annoying it is when you lie on your side and one page of the open book is easier to read than the other? Or pinning a book open on the pillow with one hand as you read? Well, all that's out the window. Reading a lightweight e-reader is comfortable and handy and it's almost impossible to lose a page. Need to stop reading for a moment? Just put the Kindle to one side, and when you return it's still there, on the same page. The only time I lose a page is when I grip either side of the device wrongly and turn a page forward or backward unexpectedly; easily resolved though.

I've tried turning pages on other devices. For example, on the iPad there's a page-turning graphic where the page rolls across the screen under your fingertips. Fact: page-turning is NOT the exciting part of reading a book. If you're enjoying a book you don't even notice that you're turning the pages. However, when I tried a different brand of e-reader I was dispapointed at the slowness of the page turns and the way the device seemed to have a fit as the page refreshed. It was distracting. This is not a problem the Kindle suffers from. The page turns are swift and delicate and do not interrupt the reading experience. On top of all this, you've got a crystal clear display and the ability to adjust the font size.

The first book I downloaded and read was "I Shall Wear Midnight" by Terry Pratchett, which had just been published. I found that, just like with a book, you soon forget you're turning pages and you get lost in the story. This is exactly what I hoped for. If the device had intruded into the reading, it would have been a lesser experience than using a book. I hope the day never comes when the Kindle beeps when an email arrives - this device is geared toward reading and I hope it stays that way. At the moment it is unobtrusive and the reading experience is fantastic.

The book browsing and buying experience is good, as expected. It's perfectly fast on WiFi. I haven't really had cause to test the 3G yet. The experimental web-browsing function works quite well on Wikipedia, although is not something I'm particularly interested in on an e-reader. The music plays nicely, and the text-to-voice function is pretty good, although everything sounds like it's being read by Stephen Hawking. However, the quality of the speakers is very good (better, I think, than on my iphone) and so proper audiobooks come across loud and clear. These are certainly interesting features and it doesn't do any harm for them to be there.

There's a free Minesweeper game if you press ALT+SHIFT+M. This is quite a fun 'easter egg', but I wouldn't want to encourage Amazon to detract from the main function of the device: reading. Not sure why there's an unused microphone on the device either. Goodness knows what they're planning. :)

I've had the device running with WiFi turned on for 6 days now and it's just started telling me that the battery is beginning to run low. I'd say there's still about 10% left in it, judging by the little battery symbol. That's impressive, considering I've been using it a lot. I'll probably turn the WiFi off between book purchases in future, though. It's going to be great for holidays.

I've also tried sending a Microsoft Word document by email to the device. It was a fast transfer and the final result was startlingly decent. It was nice seeing it displayed so well on the device.

The pricing of the ebooks is a bit odd; always shifting, and sometimes books disappear from sale (not from the device, though, as far as I know). I've been lead to believe this is because the UK prices are sometimes tied to the US prices. As the exchange rate fluxuates it affects the pricing. There's also some kind of dynamic pricing where Amazon will beat competitors' prices while they're having a sale. I don't know if this is true, but it seems to go some way to explaining why a Stephen King book will be £5 one day and £9 the next. It seems at the moment that there's a lot of significantly discounted bestsellers - which is a Good Thing. :) Hopefully prices will continue to drop as Kindle uptake increases. It certainly seems to be common sense that the saving made by publishers not having to print and distribute books should be passed on to the reader.

Overall, I'm so pleased that the device is as good as the advertising made it out to be. I'm going to start ditching the hundreds of paperbacks that I have in the house as I feel confident that e-readers - and in particular the Kindle - are the way forward.

I have tried to cover most of the Kindle's features, like Speech to Text, music, books (of course!), web browsing, notes, pdf's and I have compared it to my Sony PRS-505. Which is not as big a difference as you might expect.

*Please note that I didn't cover newspapers and periodicals on the Kindle in this review as I like those in paper form and don't use the device for this. I browse papers heavily and like to skim back and forth and the Kindle is not ideal for this. I think that is why people might be saying the review is not helpful. I think I covered everything else though!

Overall I adore the Kindle, I am very happy with it and if you'd like to see why please feel free to watch! If you own an e-reader already this may help you decide whether the upgrade is worth it or if you are new to them you can see what the Kindle uniquely offers! Thanks for watching!

The most useful purchase since the first generation iPod!!

I preordered my Kindle in mid August and it arrived a couple of days ago (mid September). Eagerly I opened up the Amazon Easy open box (which, as the name suggests, was remarkably easy to open!) and inside was my new Kindle, charger/synch cable and limited instructions (there are more complete instructions on the device).

Nice and compact
Bought this item to replace my 3rd broken Ipod touch. It's not a touch, but it doesn't claim to be. It is what you want from a music player. It's easy to load music. I was even able to load my music from my itunes account by converting them within itunes to mp3 then dropping them into the music folder in Kubik. The video player is good too. The memory is outstanding and having the ability to increase by another 4gb is genius. Easy to use, plug and play. The touch screen is responsive and once you get use to it easy to navigate. Do go into the touch screen settings and calibrate, this will help prevent any missed touches.

This is a fantastic little gadget, utterly versatile and a perfect travel companion.
It might not be as flashy as something by Apple, but it does a whole lot more, for a whole lot less!
I've added a 4gb mini SD card to expand the memory to 12gb and I've got about 45 movies, 800 songs, all
my photo's and a book's worth of text doc's. Also a great calculator, stop watch and FM radio with excellent
sound quality.
If you are thinking about buying one, just do it, you wont be disappointed.

The Kubic Edge player is very user friendly and has ample memory for my needs. I am likely to use it for music, although the capacity for Video and You Tube, plus the built in camera is an added bonus. Good value for money.

Money well spent!
It took me weeks to decide on which Electronic Dictionary to buy. I needed to make sure that I purchased the one that had everything I needed. I wanted to make sure that my choice was the right one. I am absolutely thrilled with this Dictionary, it has easy buttons to press, easy to understand instructions and a large clear screen. Great for crossword assistance, and everything else you need from a Dictionary.
Would highly recommend to everyone.

Definitely worth the money

This is one of the best things I have ever purchased. I was hesitant for a long time because I thought it was too expensive for what it is; especially when I already own the large hard copies of the Oxford English Dictionary and Thesaurus. How wrong I was.

The reasons that this is amazing are as follows:

1: When I am lying on the sofa reading a book and a word crops up that I can't quite get my head round ('fecundity', for example) I can simply reach over to my dictionary and tap in the word, without having to put my book down and pick up and leaf through a huge great dictionary. This may seem lazy, but the point is this: with a hard back dictionary, a lot of the time I simply wouldn't bother looking things up at all, but would guess (and probably misinterpret) the meaning of the word and possibly the whole section of the book.

2: I read a lot on the Underground on the way to work. There is absolutely no way I would consider taking a huge great book version, therefore this is hugely useful.

So why buy this one as opposed to any other? Because this one has a larger screen, fuller entries and - most importantly - a super-jump function. This means that you can select words from one entry and automatically jump to the entry for that word. I cannot express the usefulness of this enough.

Plus - it also holds both encyclopedic references and the etymological/historical origins of the word entries. I'm not sure whether other models do this or not, but both things come in extremely handy.

In conclusion: yes, it IS worth the money. Buy it!

A must for any student
I agree completely with the other two comments. This is a truly excellent little device. Small enough to fit in any pocket, yet contains the contents of a book to big for any bag!
I am currently undertaking an MA and the way defining words is so easy to go about, not only does your vocabulary increase, but your understanding of the work increases too.
I do not know how I could live without this now, £60 may seem like a lot, but it is an investment in your future, don't delay buying this!
Here are a few of the features worth praising:
1) Large screen, easy to read long definitions.
2) quick view, allows you to preview all of the definitions available
3) Super jump, jumps to any word within the definition
4) ITS THE FULL OED AND THESAURUS IN A DEVICE THAT FITS IN YOUR PALM!!!!!
4) No need to exit the current definition to search again, simply start typing an it starts a new search.
5) When typing a word it automatically brings up a list of words that begin with the letters you have typed.

Seriously worth the money, you will not be disappointed!

LG 32LD450
A TV that exceeds in all that it does. A great natural colour is achievable with the use of the on screen wizard, and the on screen captions and menues are sharp and readable even if you are sitting some distance away from the tv. The sound is very clear with good volume. The remote control becomes quite easy to get the hang of and the raised and contoured buttons are a bonus finding your way around the facilities it offers.
A great 32" tv at a great price. The excellent picture belies the fact that this is a 32" screen and the size of the tv does`nt dominate the room.

Good value
Have had the LG 32LD450 for a few days and very impressed so far. Initially I found that the standard picture setting gave a lack lustre image; but a picture setting of "vivid" gives a crisp picture with good colour balance. Very impressive. It seems that Sky haven't got around to setting a Sky Remote code for this TV yet but for my (revision 8) remote the code is 0206.

LG LD450 TV
After much research, this was our decided buy. Excellent picture - great control with colour, horizontal and vertical bars and LOVE the "Clear Voice". We had an old Sony prior to this, and the sound was excellent. However, with the flat screen, you can't get that "surround sound" without speakers and a sub woofer. Slight vibration but otherwise very good. Would recommend. Easy set up and I've managed to get it linked to our old set box so we can record whilst watching another channel on freeview! The hitchhiker's guide to the glossary
Electronic dictionaries have been slow to catch on in the UK, but this model may change that. I guess most children have an aversion to dictionaries full-stop. I remember at school finding it so tedious to look up words in the index, or in a dictionary, particularly when you weren't confident about the spelling. The exercise became even more labrious if the explanation of the word contained further words you didn't understand.

Electronic dictionaries are potentially offputting because you have to key the word in -- tedious if you're also using a computer WP package which means you'll have to key the word in twice. But wait ... if you don't get the spelling correct, this machine suggests similar-looking words. And if there's any word you don't understand in the explanation of a word, you simply move the cursor to that word and jump to its explanation. Hopping around from word to word is much easier with the Sharp than with a hardcopy dictionary.

The Sharp also contains a good thesaurus and ... uniquely ... a fine book of quotations, from the Oxford University Press. I have the hardcopy versions of the Oxford Dictionary of English and the Oxford Book of Quotations, and I know from the size and weight of them that I would not want to lug them around. Yet this device weighs little more than a scientific calculator.

The reason I refer in the title to the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is that, unexpectedly, the Oxford Dictionary of English contains a reasonable encyclopaedia. This is not sufficiently extensive to have the people at Britannica worried, but if I key in, for example, RICHARD and hit the ENTER key, I get 60-word write-ups of each of the three King Richards of England.

It is a minor marvel. And the great thing is that there is no boot-up time: you switch it on and, as fast as a calculator, it's ready for input.

The only down-side is that, though this may look like many of Sharp's organisers, you cannot store any of your own text or data on the device. But that's probably for the best -- I wouldn't want to become too dependent on the thing!

Top-hole
At £100 for the version with quotations you may hesitate. Don't - it's worth every penny. The device itself is well designed, feels well made and the size and weight is just right for desktop or handheld use. The content, as you would expect from the OUP, is excellent.

Those impressed by high-priced, do everything PDA gadgetry will no doubt deride the relatively low-tech display but it's more than adequate for the job at hand and, best of all, instant start up and fit-and-almost-forget battery life will give you ample opportunity to look up the words bonehead and gullible as they go off in search of a mains socket to recharge.

As a 'productivity tool' it has exceeded my expectations. I read classical poetry and continually come across words that I need to look up. Previously I noted these down and looked them up afterwards so as not to break the flow of the poem. Now I am looking up words without even breaking metre, my understanding and enjoyment of the text on first reading has increased, and I am spending more time reading literature and less time looking things up.

I think the image on this page doesn't show the latest version - the PWE500A - which has a backlight.

Any quibbles? It would be churlish of me to criticize this exceptionally useful reference tool but if pushed I'd say identifying a name entry can be a little frustrating. Take Jones - there are 6 listed but as Jones 1 to 6, not Jones, B to Jones, T. You have to guess which one is the one you want and if you're wrong go back and try another. So instead of Daniel Jones I get Tom Jones? Well I am studying ancient classics I suppose.

The most essential tool I've never known I wanted..
Saw the Sharp dictionary in a newspaper article, and thought that I'd risk a purchase. My first surprise upon getting it was just how stylish and portable it really is. My second was how easy it is to use, which is a refreshing change.

The content in the PW-E500 is what really makes it special, and I've found myself using all 3 of the reference works included. The dictionary definitions are superb, and the use of encylopedic data is an essential part of its appeal,along with the clearest text I've seen. The thesaurus is excellent, and I've found the quotations book to be both useful and informative.

I've used products by others, but what I've found different with the Sharp device is how it can be used as an interactive tool, leaping around different words, going back and forth in search of the right one. It's something that would take too long with normal dictionaries.

In summary - it's exceptional/extraordinary/singular/unprecedented... , and judging by reactions from my colleagues, will also be making many more appearances.

Adequate but should be so much better for the price.
This review is posted after 5 days of use with the Kindle lighted cover(brown).

Positives
1) Good quality leather.
2) Swinging lock mechanism works very well and holds kindle in place securely.
3) The cover has been designed so the front cover extends fully backwards so as to overlap the back cover. At first I thought the increased thickness that results would be uncomfortable but I was pleasantly surprised how little you notice the cover when reading in this position.
4) The light (when reading only). Yes it is not evenly distributed over the entire screen but is perfectly adequate for reading at night. The difference in light from the top right hand side of the screen to the bottom left of the screen in my opinion is negligible.(However please see point 2 below for using the keyboard at night)

Negatives
1) The fastening mechanism - which comprises of what I can only describe as a thick elasticated string. I cannot help but wonder how long this string will last after repeated pulling and releasing. Yes it does the job but surely the designers could have come up with a better fastening mechanism. I hope to be proved wrong and like to think Amazon had some sort of robotic arm which was continually opening and releasing the kindle cover to test its longevity.
2) The light (when using the keyboard only). Although the light is perfectly usable when reading on screen I have found it to be lacking when using the keyboard at night. I have found myself having to strain to distinguish between the keys.
3) Muffled sound from speakers. Ok the text to speech option is at present not very good and as Amazon say it is experimental, but I thought I would mention that because the kindle speakers are located at the back of the unit, any sound that is played is muffled. Yes it sounds obvious and there is probably not much you can do about it (apart from turn up the volume) but I thought I would mention it.
4) Price. There is a niggling doubt in the back of my mind that the sum of the components does not reflect the overall price. In my opinion a price tag of around £35 is more realistic.

Greatly enhances the Kindle reading experience
The Kindle is my first eBook reader after 55 years of reading paper books (I started very young), and I've found this cover to be a great help in making the transition.

The cover looks good (I like the steel blue colour), is beautifully made and holds the Kindle securely. Reading, both with the cover in the open book position and with the top folded behind the Kindle, is very comfortable. The weight of the Kindle plus the cover is about the same as a 500 page paperback (around 15 ounces), which is fine for me.

I hesitated about whether to get the lighted version or not, but am really glad that I did as the light works very well. It's great for reading in bed at night and and will be extremely useful when I'm away from home. Although the lighting across the screen is uneven, I find the illumination is fine for reading, and the fact that the light is always available (and hidden away when not is use) makes up for this.

Before I got the cover it seemed expensive, but if it stands up well to sustained use it will be worth every penny.

Excellent but expensive.
When I first decided to buy the fantastic Kindle3 I thought it was only right to get the cover designed for it.

My first thought on which cover to get was that both the standard and the lighted one were brilliant but about a third too expensive. Looking at the prices I decided that I should economise so I bought the standard cover without the light thinking that I already have a simple clip on light that would do the job fine.

Both the covers (excepting the light) are the same so the following review applies to both models.

The cover arrived (before the Kindle) and it is very very good. It fits the Kindle perfectly and in so doing gives protection. I really like the way that it is styled, the leather is gorgeous, the colours lovely (I bought the burnt orange) and it is so easy to use. It attaches to the Kindle in a matter of seconds, and in use is simplicity. I really like the elastic closure band, no fuss, just does the job. I also really like the way I can fold the cover back, fix it with the band and then either hold the Kindle with one hand or rest it on a cushion or in a book stand for 'hands free' use. The inside of the cover has a lovely 'felty' feel to it, so not only does it completely protect the screen and buttons of the Kindle, but it is also non slip so rests very easily on an angled surface.

Attaching my clip on light was ok, but after only a few days the battery was going down (because I was using the Kindle so much!) so I decided to think again about the lighted cover!

Having initially disregarded the lighted cover due to its cost I began to see the advantages over having a separate light. The light is always there! After kicking myself a bit over having wasted money on buying the standard cover I ordered the burgundy red lighted cover. It is brilliant! It is so clever just having the light there all the time, safely tucked away when not needed, but instantly available in low light. I thought the light would be uneven and therefore annoying but it is a very gentle natural light and becomes unnoticeable once absorbed in the reading - which is very very easy to do.

I don't understand why anyone having bought the best e-reader on the market will want to buy a cover which slips off or is just a stick-on cover. Don't hesitate about buying the best cover designed for the Kindle which does the job so brilliantly. Yes it is expensive but it will last, is a quality product and makes my Kindle look an even more amazing piece of kit than it already is in its own right.

HDMI Cable
I have this cable and a £40 one I bought when the Playstation 3 first came out, and I can safely say that the two produce an IDENTICAL image. There's absolutely no difference in quality between this, extremely well priced one, and the over priced ones that the oh-so-convincing sales reps might convince you that you need. Disclaimer: HDMI cables are digital cables, not analogue, and therefore don't differ in quality the way analogue leads used to.

the 1.8M cable in this case is perfectly long enough to come from the back of the television to any Blu-Ray player, PS3, Xbox 360, etc, with a little bit of give as well - and it's not so long that the data transfer commits the image to loose quality (the length DOES make a difference with digital cables - shorter the better). If you have a HDMI port in the back of your monitor, you can also use this for that - I have tried it with both the PS3, and Xbox 360 and it looks fantastic. A perfect cable in all respects.

You'd be a mug not to buy this!!!!
I recently bought a 1080p HD TV so needed the requisite HDMI cable to enjoy a crystal clear picture (especially for the Xbox 360), imagine my joy when I disovered these cables at less than a quid!!!!! The picture is perfect, I've compared them with a friends M*nster brand cable and THERE IS NO DIFFERENCE IN PICTURE QUALITY!!!
Don't be fooled into buying vastly expensive alternatives, I can testify that these do job at a fraction of the price!

Talk about value!
To be honest, I wasn't sure about purchasing this cable because it seemed too good to be true. But after reading some of the previously posted reviews I thought it was worth a shot. This cable is the real deal. It works great and it's really simple to get started. My Xbox games never looked better. If you pay more than £10 for any HDMI cables then seriously consider taking them back and buying one of these. You can't go wrong at this price.
